Public Health Committee Created

La Commune de Paris. Monday, May 1, 1871. After a very heated debate lasting several days, the decision was made to create a "Comité de salut public" (Public Health Committee) consisting of five members. This committee will have power over all other bodies by centralizing decisions. It is considered indispensable to accelerate activities, the taking of urgent measures and above all to be more effective in the conduct of the war of defense of Paris. Many elected communards, supporters of direct democracy, see this committee as a potential if not actual dictatorship poorly disguised. In voting on this measure, it was ratified that within the Commune de Paris there is a majority and a minority.
